The Good:
We were able to take and fully enjoy our honeymoon before COVID wreaked its havoc
Our health (and sanity) has remained, despite lockdown
The donut shop was able to reopen in an adjusted way after two months of being closed from lockdown
My management company and respective labels were able to have a productive year during a turbulent time for our industry at large
We avoided layoffs at all of my businesses even through the most challenging points of COVID
I continued my recreational tennis playing and even picked up a steady diet of yoga before and during COVID-times
I have read more, due to quarantine, than any year of my life and hope to continue the pattern in the future
Received my first gold plaque
The Bad:
Seeing the pain and affects of COVID on many of my family members, clients, and close friends
Plentiful (unexpected) home repairs
Lost plans and celebrations due to quarantine
Forced uncertainty and stresses about the future because of COVID
2021:
Continue to reevaluate lessons from quarantine, like having better boundaries around work and if all the travel from the past is as necessary in the future
Stick with tennis, yoga, and reading and hopefully return to soccer once it is safe to do so
Take advantage of the ability to travel and enjoy the world in the way we desired to in 2020
Keep multiple music industry businesses steady through what is bound to be a turbulent first half of the year for our and our artists’ businesses
End of the Year:
I’m ultimately grateful for the year I was able to have in 2020. Perspective has been important for me, and I assume many others, this year. There have been many difficult moments and I expect reverberations from those deep into 2021. But I know it could be worse, as it has been for many others this year. I’m looking forward to keeping some of the good from this year into next shedding some of the bad.
As always, I’ve published lots of media, data, and other information from my personal life this year, which all can be found below:
Activity Log: Typically rich with dining and travel, new TV shows, movies, books, and podcasts took the lead this year.
The Year in Music: Find my top ten releases, everything I listened to, and everything I worked on. Also check out a Spotify playlist of my favorite individual songs in 2020.
Shows: I went to a show every 4 and a half days in 2019, and 84 total. I went to 8 shows in all of 2020 before lockdown struck. Striking to look at.
Works: The four categories (Miscellaneous, Media, Labels, and Management) have all been updated as companies change and projects get tweaked. I’m expecting a few exciting additions in 2021!
Enjoy Philadelphia: Updates continue, but are less plentiful due to COVID-19.
Quarantine Media Diet: I was influenced to keep a Media Diet (h/t Steven Soderbergh) through quarantine in 2020. It’s long!
