Many Hats Endeavors has a lofty mission: Many Hats works to enable artists of all shapes and sizes the freedom to better leverage their art and creations into a sustainable longterm endeavor.
Over the past year we have expanded what MHE does in order to fulfill that mission with two new branches of the company: Wax Bodega and Many Hats Distribution.
Wax Bodega
I am from New York City. Bodegas give you a little of everything. What you need, when you need it. Wax Bodega is a special name to me. I remember getting extremely jealous of the name the first time I heard it back in 2015. The brand went dormant a few years later and never quite left my mind.
Kyle and Josh, the original duo that came up with the name, were gracious enough to allow the brand to continue on under Many Hats. What is Wax Bodega today?
Wax Bodega is the forward facing record label of Many Hats with a focus on alternative music. Our deals are progressive in the favor of the artists we work with in terms of ownership, financial splits, and length. Our structure is nimble and modern while still competitive with the traditional labels in the space. We are going to have a busy year with a diverse set of artists.
This is something I’ve been working on for a long time. I’m so excited to kick things off with two artists and releases this week. There will be much more to follow this summer and fall.
Don’t sleep on the amazing branding as well done by, you guessed it, Matt Delisle from Cold Pizza.
Many Hats Distribution
Distributors are not created equally. Most artists, managers, and record label owners that I come across are not aware that releasing music through Tunecore or DistroKid pays you significantly less per stream than a major label or Merlin member receives for that same stream. But major labels are not interested in the majority of artists who use those somewhat free and very accessible services. And if they are, the deals offered often do not make sense for these artists.
Enter Many Hats Distribution. We secure our partners a higher income rate for their catalog from DSPs for a dramatically smaller fee compared to larger players like The Orchard or AWAL. We also distribute our partners vinyl into physical retail channels.
This portion of our business has been the most challenging to build, but gives the highest reward. We are paying the artists we distribute millions of dollars per year while they retain full ownership and control of their music.
I am wildly passionate and motivated by this business and the artists + teams we get to work with for it.
